About The Event
What happens when we de-center design and use another craft as a lens to examine our practice? How does that stretch and alter what we see, what we learn and what we discover ?
As designers we are often influenced by inspiration from the everyday and we use it to create new environments for a better experience. What happens when we look more closely at what the environment has already been crafted around us, as a place to activate our imagination?
Join us outside at Albert Park (exact location will be confirmed nearer the event date) where we will put down our conventional design kit (post-its and sharpies) and go foraging to find natural and organic materials to make with instead. In this session we will invite you to forage along Papatuanuku and find materials that give meaning to the values of your design practice. Together we will use our collected natural materials combined with clay to create sculptures that represent our design practice aspirations. Making helps to surface and give form to ideas, emotions and knowledge, from which we can observe or draw meaning and discuss how these models have become scaffolds to reflect on our craft.
All materials will be provided.
We invite you to stay for a picnic at the end of the workshop to celebrate the end of the year together, non-alcoholic drinks and nibbles will be provided.
