A womxn of the Pacific, with ancestral connections to Tainui, Te Arawa and Tonga, Hiria has been working to transform lives through education for almost 20 years. Hiria believes in the transformative power of learning and development as it applies to individual, organisational and societal outcomes and is committed to working with diverse organisations to inspire them to activate the full potential of their people.
An international educator and coach with specialist knowledge and experience in facilitation, coaching and program development for racial equity education, Hiria works with the Courageous Conversation South Pacific Institute to design and implement racial equity leadership programmes and raise consciousness to dismantle systems of oppression that perpetuate racial disparities. Inspired to elevate, celebrate, honour and advocate for people and communities of colour, Hiria has achieved successes in higher education, organisational development and industry-based learning programmes. She has also recently established Pito Mata Charitable Trust to activate the potential of young people to advance social inclusion, innovation and impact through the design of co-created and community-led solutions.
With governance responsibilities as a Director on the Auckland Rugby League Board, and her current engagement with Leadership New Zealand’s Mana Moana Experience, Hiria draws on experience from a number of sectors in her leadership practice. She holds multiple qualifications in Education from the University of Auckland and Unitec Institute of Technology and was part of the ground-breaking team who were awarded the 2016 Cultural Celebration Award by Diversity Works NZ.
