About The Event
Ruth Brown has spent most of her time at Trade Me out and about discovering what makes customers tick. In 2018, Ruth changed tack and focussed on the people inside the building. What makes employees tick?
During this interactive session, Ruth will take you through year one as Head of People Research at Trade Me. You’ll hear about how her first Employee Experience project (which was destined to end in more Foosball tables) was completely flipped when Trade Me worked out what their people actually wanted from their employer. You’ll learn about the differences and commonalities of customer and employee research and explore practical tools to use if you want to understand and improve the employee experience at your work place.
About Ruth Brown, Head of People Research - Trade Me
Ruth has spent much of her career understanding how people think, feel and behave. Her first love was engineering, until she realised that people were more interesting than maths. On a good day she still gets to do both.
Ruth had been working at Trade Me as their Head of User Experience since 2012. In 2018 she decided she wanted a change, and Trade Me (because they were already quite good at this employee experience stuff) offered her an amazing opportunity to become their first ever Head of People Research part-time while pursuing her own work outside of Trade Me. On a typical day at Trade Me she’ll be interviewing employees, co-designing solutions, or deep in employee data.
